The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) was established in 1987 to be a pioneer in legal education. NLSIU announces a 2-year full-time Fellowship Programme aimed at graduates and post-graduates from law, social sciences, humanities and allied fields who are preparing to enter law practice or academic careers in law, public policy or the social sciences. The Fellowship programme will allow Fellows to:
- Assist NLSIU faculty on research projects and policy interventions
- Support faculty in the delivery of both on-campus and off-campus academic programmes.

- Essential Qualifications: LL.B degree OR post-graduate degree in any discipline.
- Desirable Qualifications: Candidates with an LL.M/M.A./Ph.D. will be preferred.

Job Description
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the best law and social sciences faculty and receive guidance and mentorship on research proposals, research writing, problem solving and critical thinking skills. You will get an in-side view of the pedagogical processes in both online and offline education at India’s best law school. Your core responsibilities will include:
Academic
- Assist the faculty in the delivery of academic programmes
- Prepare learning aids, learning materials and practice questions
- Review and update study materials under the guidance of the faculty
- Resolve and respond to academic queries from students
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department head
Research
- Collaborate with faculty on research and publications
- Assist the faculty in on-going research projects/case writing
- Conduct literature reviews
- Assist with the research and editing functions in University publications
- Work with research projects and centres on cutting-edge issues in law/policy
Focus Areas
While the University will recruit candidates with a wide range of academic and intellectual interests, some of our current focus areas include:
- Law and Health – We look at questions of comprehensive institutional and regulatory reform that are urgent priorities in public health. Using a multidisciplinary approach, we explore and evaluate different models and approaches from around the world, and assess their suitability for different Indian contexts. The first set of research areas will be on issues related to regulation of medical and healthcare professionals, drug regulation, and constitutional dimensions of public health.
- Law, Tech and Society – We consider legal and ethical concerns and challenges in utilizing new technologies in economic, governmental and social activities involving human interactions with these technologies. This includes emerging software-related technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning; policy and regulatory implications for physical devices and hardware including the Internet of Things, network technologies, and 3D printing; and the growing interface between software and new technological devices and human bodies.
- Private Law – Our work in private law includes fundamental questions on private law legal obligations arising out of contract, tort, law of property and corporations. We are engaged in cutting-edge work on banking and finance, and securities law regulation. We work with the government and regulators to assist them in these areas.
- Legal System Reform – We aim to shed light on challenges faced by the justice system through some relatively overlooked approaches in the research on justice reform, including a systems-design view of the various levels of judicial functioning, understanding the current justice needs of diverse communities and fine-grained empirical analysis that combines legal doctrine, judicial data with socio-economic statistics and qualitative inquiry.
- Criminal Justice – Research will draw on large-scale field interventions, and original empirical research in areas such as pre-trial detention, gender-based violence, arrest and bail.
Remuneration
Salary will be commensurate with educational background and relevant experience. We welcome applications at all levels of experience. All Fellows will be covered under the Group Health Insurance Scheme. NLSIU can provide accommodation on campus on request.
