Zenith Society for Socio-Legal Empowerment is a non-profit organisation working on grassroot legal empowerment of Adivasi, Dalit, and other marginalised communities in Madhya Pradesh. Zenith works with the community in order to build their capacity in understanding their legal rights,
defining their ideas of change, and taking appropriate measures in order to bring a more just and dignified life. Currently we operate in three districts in Madhya Pradesh: Shivpuri, Gwalior and Bhind.
Role:
Zenith is inviting applications for the role of Program Manager, Clinical Legal Education for individuals passionate to work on grassroot legal empowerment.
About the Program:
Clinical Legal Education Program aims to build capacities in law schools to work towards grassroots legal empowerment. Law schools were established with the vision of creating social engineers. They believe there is a need to move beyond the existing rigid clinical legal educational structures and create new pathways to involve law students to instill changemaking capabilities in them to bridge the gap for communities seeking access to justice. Involving law students in clinical work has the potential to help build a robust system of learning by doing, sensitizing and preparing young people to create changemaking capacity and respond to social issues in any spaces (educational or professional) that they occupy.
Objectives:
● Establishing robust student-run Legal Services Clinics/Centre in law colleges, particularly in tier 2 and 3 cities and towns, that will work towards providing legal aid to, and creating justice solutions with, the marginalized and disempowered communities.
● Creating a platform for students to incubate and experiment with ideas in the field of social justice.
● Creating a network of Law School based Legal Services Clinics who will be working in coordination with each other, with shared learnings, to achieve a common larger goal of providing legal services to the last person and developing justice solutions with communities.
● Bringing a shift so that legal services work and problem-solving gets due acknowledgement and recognition in professional spaces, state and non-state spaces both.
● Bringing a policy shift so that the legal services work and problem-solving becomes an essential part of the curriculum and academic credits are given for being involved in this work.
Job Overview:
Program Manager will spearhead the program which will be undertaken in 5 local law schools in Madhya Pradesh.
Role & Responsibilities:
● Design the program, associated course materials, workshops and training.
● Coordination and collaborations with students, college administration, DLSA, other state and non-state actors and stakeholders in the ecosystem.
● Build capacities of students through training and short courses on perspective building and tools for action.
● Assist students to launch their platforms and undertake justice related works.
● Navigate the network of law students for shared learnings and best practices.
● Work towards bringing a policy shift to promote problem solving and action oriented work as part of the legal aid curriculum.
Qualification:
Graduate (Law or Humanities) + 2 years’ work experience in similar role
Position:
Program Manager, 1 Position only.
Duration:
One year ( Full time)
Salary:
35,000 per month
