- The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), cleared the way for the inclusion of the ‘Pahari ethnic group’ in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

- SC to examine law depriving undertrials the Right to Vote. (Aditya Prasanna Bhattacharya v. UoI and Ors)
- The Union minister of Law and Justice criticized the Supreme Court Collegium system, saying that judges only recommend the appointment or elevation of those they know and not always the fittest person for the job.
- SC, by 3:2 majority, has upheld the validity of the 103rd Constitutional Amendment which provides 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) among forward castes in government jobs and colleges across India. (Janhit Abhiyan v. Union of India)
- SC, has upheld the Employees’ Pension (Amendment) Scheme, 2014, but quashed the threshold limit of Rs 15,000 monthly salary for joining the pension fund. (Employees Provident Fund Organization v. B Sunil Kumar and connected cases)
- Retired High Court Chief Justice Rituraj Awasthi- appointed as the Chairperson of the 22nd Law Commission of India.
- SC, exercising its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution, set free the remaining six convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. (RP Ravichandran v. State of Tamil Nadu)
- Government has appointed 15 judicial and technical members at the NCLT.
- Amendments proposed to the Competition Act, 2002, to reduce the time limit for approval of combinations to 150 days from the current 210 days.
- SC launched an online portal for filing RTI applications.
- Bilkis Bano moves the Supreme Court against the release of 11 convicts.
- Women can also be held guilty under Section 354 IPC for outraging woman’s modesty (State of Maharashtra vs Rovena @ Aadnya Amit Bhosle).

- Article 326 of the Constitution gives citizens the right to vote and that cannot be overruled by the ancillary law-making powers of parliament, the Supreme Court observed.
- Uttarakhand cabinet gives in-principle approval to shift Uttarakhand High Court from Nainital to Haldwani.
