Founded in 2007, the Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy (CMHLP) is based in Pune at the Indian Law Society (ILS). ILS, their parent body, is a not-for-profit that was established as a charitable society in 1923.
Their mission is to strengthen and transform the mental health of our communities to be holistic and responsive in addressing individual and collective well-being.
They facilitate pathways that enable people to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. To apply a rights-based approach, they collaborate with stakeholders from multiple disciplines including policymakers, mental health professionals, researchers, civil society organisations, persons with lived experience and the media.
They work nationally & internationally, with a specific focus on vulnerable & marginalised populations across low- and middle-income settings.

Qualifications:
- Prior experience in youth engagement, communication, and capacity building activities is desirable.
- Master’s degree in social sciences, public health, public policy or allied disciplines
- At least 2–3 years’ work experience in the fields of mental health, public health, policy reform, development and social justice, and other allied fields
- Strong research skills both in qualitative and quantitative techniques
- Proficiency in written English—academic, policy and report writing
- Proficiency in Hindi (spoken and written)
- Desirable: Prior experience in youth engagement, communication, and capacity building
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and consult with young people in the Youth Advisory Board and integrate their feedback into research processes
- Coordinate and implement research activities targeted specifically for young people
- Prepare youth engagement and capacity building material for all consultative activities
- Support desk research by collating, and analysing data and information on youth mental health in India
- Support the development and implementation of research tools (i.e. surveys, questionnaires, interview guides, etc.)
- Prepare research outputs and publications (progress reports, summary reports, presentations)
- Occasional travel to field sites
