Role:
Legal Manager
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in law or a related field.
- Proven experience in legal, compliance, or external affairs roles, with a focus on contract management and regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of contract law, legal procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external parties.
- High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
Responsibilities:
The Legal, Compliance & External Affairs Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all legal, compliance, and external affairs activities within the organization. This role involves managing contracts, handling notices from customers, legal firms, police, and other agencies, overseeing litigations, ensuring statutory compliances are met, and managing external affairs. The manager will work closely with internal stakeholders, external parties, and legal counsel to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, mitigate risks, and maintain positive external relationships.
Contract Management:
- Manage the entire contract lifecycle, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and finalizing contracts.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure contracts align with business objectives and legal requirements.
- Monitor contract renewals, amendments, and terminations to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
- Notices and Communication Management:
- Receive and handle notices from customers, legal companies, police, and other agencies.
- Assess the legal implications of notices and take appropriate actions in consultation with legal counsel.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to provide updates and address any legal or compliance concerns.
Litigation Management:
- Oversee litigation matters, including coordinating with external legal counsel, gathering relevant information and documentation, and preparing for legal proceedings.
- Develop strategies to minimize potential legal risks and ensure favourable outcomes in legal disputes.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to litigation activities.
Statutory Compliance:
- Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure compliance across the organization.
- Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures to mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
- Conduct internal audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
External Affairs:
- Represent the organization in external engagements, including meetings with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and other stakeholders.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with external parties, such as government agencies, law enforcement, and legal firms.
- Monitor and analyse legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the organization, and provide recommendations accordingly.
