The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) exercises operational and administrative control of the Indian Navy from the Naval Headquarters (NHQ) at New Delhi. He is assisted by the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff (VCNS) and three other Principal Staff Officers, namely the Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (DCNS), the Chief of Personnel (COP) and the Chief of Material (COM).

Qualification:
- A degree in Law qualifying for enrolment as an advocate under Advocates Act,1961, with minimum 55% marks.
- Candidates applying for this entry should be from a college/university recognized by Bar Council of India
