About: Committee of 100 is a non-profit U.S. leadership organization of prominent Chinese Americans in business, government, academia, healthcare, and the arts focused on public policy engagement, civic engagement, and philanthropy. For over 30 years, Committee of 100 has served as a preeminent organization committed to the dual missions of promoting the full participation of Chinese Americans in all aspects of American life and constructive relations between the United States and Greater China.
Role:
Intern- Fall 2023
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of first year of law school curricula at an ABA accredited law school
- Ideally, some experience in nonprofit law, compliance or conflict of interest (although not strictly necessary)
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the Committee of 100
- Familiarity with MS 365 Suite, Westlaw, PACER
- Excels in a collaborative environment while able to work autonomously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to think and work independently within a professional setting
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Flexibility to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Highly organized; ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
- Candidates should be available to work approximately 15 – 20 hours per week (part-time)
Responsibilities:
This is an excellent opportunity for law students who are considering a career in public interest. You will get a glimpse of what it’s like to serve as an in-house legal counsel for a non-profit organization and providing legal guidance on the operations, governance, and human resources of the organization. Additionally, the Committee of 100 has a robust Legal Education Fund and works to ensure the civil rights and liberties of Chinese Americans and other marginalized individuals are protected. Working with their General Counsel, you will be a change agent by assessing the legal needs of the community, providing legal advice to community leaders, and participating in community briefings and roundtables.
Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting legal research
- Drafting amicus briefs
- Drafting internal policies, procedures and forms
- Conducting contract reviews
- Statutory and policy analysis
- Case tracking
- Developing community education materials
- Attending coalition meetings
- Submitting public records requests
- Other tasks or projects as needed
