Responsibilities:
Conceptualize, develop and implement organization’s legal / secretarial / compliance processes and policies in line with secretarial/ legal requirements to mitigate current/ future risks and ensure achievement of business interests in the short and long term by guiding, mentoring and coaching subordinates in legal, administration and safety & health environment teams, sponsored state and communities.
• Participates in formulating the yearly and long-term strategy and purpose of the firm by engaging in discussions with Chief Executive Officer, other business and function Heads; review & provide guidance for annual state and functional plans to ensure its alignment with the overall Roche’s global vision
• Leads and manages a legal and compliance team, typically including attorneys, paralegals and potentially other specialists, for the assigned affiliate within the assigned division.
• Provide guidance as India Enabling Squad (IES) member to functional team members on cultural transformation by various check-ins, resolving administrative and operational issues to build their capability and imbibe the principles of Roche quantum organization
• Guide, mentor and inspire functional team members to emerge as leaders by engaging in thought leadership, assisting in problem solving, facilitating decision making, questioning their assumptions, and help them introspect their ideas to deliver on Roche’s 7 leadership commitments
• Ensure organizational ethics, healthcare and other compliance by identifying and creating awareness of applicable statutes, establishing a compliance calendar, being a custodian of documents and records and by being a nodal point of contact for auditors to deliver on secretarial responsibility
• Advice all the verticals on complex aspects of competition and tax related laws (Indian and sometimes international), review vendor and distributor agreements structure, guide on legal aspects including cases filed (from or against the firm), trademarks and intellectual property to ultimately benefit the firm and protect against any liability
• Act as a sponsor for strategic objective – “stakeholder partnerships”, oversee development and implementation of associated projects, review critical milestones of the project, provide insights and guidance to escalated issues from team members to deliver on the business objective
• Participate in selection process to identify the right talent for senior positions within the business and at overall organization level; determine individual training needs and development plans to build expertise and enhance domain knowledge in the team; create conducive working environment to help individuals perform to the best of their capability; establish individual performance expectations; conduct monthly review individual performance of the team
• Manages legal business matters pertaining to the organization with the team, provides a variety of general corporate and commercial legal services to in-house clients.
• May act as an advisor on legal issues involving the organization’s government and regulatory compliance.
• With the team, reviews legal data and advises organizations on appropriate legal action to be taken.
• Ensure that the affiliate fully complies with Roche global and all applicable local compliance standards and requirements; and ensure that Healthcare Compliance is fully embedded in the organization’s culture and people as evidenced by the business strategy, policies, process, operations and ways of working; to protect the business from compliance risk and safeguard Roche’s reputation
• Drive Compliance mindset across the affiliate with development of compliance framework; advise the cross-functional teams to address compliance concerns and develop a comprehensive compliance framework, in order to ensure to always do the right thing and enable long-term business sustainability
• Oversee all the administration activities through the team on end to end employee welfare, including housekeeping, meal planning, employee welfare, infrastructure and office maintenance, related agreements, etc. by negotiating with vendors to ensure timely execution
• Oversee the planning of safety, health and environment activities including employee safety and emergency trainings, office security, expatriate safety, employee health checkups, business continuity planning, emergency (disaster) management planning to ensure timely execution
