Qualifications:
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from a recognized institution. A master’s degree in law (LLM) may be preferred.
- Legal Experience: Several years of experience practicing law, with a focus on education, employment, or corporate law. Experience in a legal role at an educational institution is a plus.
- Bar Membership: Membership in the Bar Council of India and eligibility to practice law in India.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Indian laws and regulations related to education, labor, and other relevant areas. Familiarity with university governance structures is beneficial.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft legal documents and communicate complex legal issues in a clear and understandable manner.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess legal risks and propose practical solutions.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with university staff, faculty, and external legal professionals.
- Ethical Standards: High ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in using legal research databases and standard office software.
Responsibilities:
The Legal Officer at Alliance University is responsible for providing legal advice and support to the university administration, faculty, staff, and students. They ensure that the university complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies. Additionally, they represent the university in legal matters and provide guidance on contractual agreements, disputes, and other legal issues.
- Legal Advisory: Provide legal guidance and advice to university management on a wide range of legal issues, including academic, employment, contractual, and regulatory matters.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure that the university complies with all relevant laws and regulations, including those related to education, employment, and governance.
- Contract Review: Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and MOUs on behalf of the university. Ensure that these agreements align with legal requirements and the university’s interests.
- Dispute Resolution: Handle legal disputes and litigation involving the university. Coordinate with external legal counsel when necessary and represent the university’s interests in legal proceedings.
- Legal Research: Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the university. Conduct legal research to provide informed advice.
- Training and Education: Conduct training sessions and workshops for university staff and faculty to enhance their awareness of legal issues and compliance.
- Student Affairs: Address legal matters related to students, such as disciplinary actions, complaints, and admissions.
- Policy Development: Assist in the development and review of university policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance.
- Liaison: Serve as a liaison between the university and external legal authorities, government agencies, and regulatory bodies.
