About:
Concern about escalating levels of violence against women and lack of deterrence heightened public pressure to explore strategies to prevent crime against women. It is observed that many complaints of violence could not be registered because of various reasons. Therefore, establishment of Women
Police Station/ Mahila Thana (“WPS”) is to provide victims with a more female-friendly setting that is specifically designed to deal with situations of violence against women. Officers appointed at the WPS undergo training in dealing with victims of crime against women. It is expected that WPS will improve the willingness to report a crime. It has been observed that many women victims do not register complaints due to inhabitations or social fear to express their situations to the male police officials.
The aim of this seminar is to conduct deliberations, discussions, exchange of thought, and facilitation. It will help in identifying the deficiency, initiatives relating to the effective enforcement of the same. It will also help in understanding the utility of initiatives taken at various levels of policing. Empirical research is invited to assess whether women are preferring WPS over police stations and its impact to minimize the crime against women.
