INTRODUCTION
The Forest Conservation Act was enacted in 1980, with the purpose to protect and conserve natural forests that provide for the basic needs of people who live in or near them. The basic objectives of this Act are to protect Forest, prevent deforestation, safeguard from the loss of biodiversity, prevent the conversion of the forest. As per this Act, in certain circumstances, the State government does not have requisite powers to make decisions without the permission of the Central government. Moreover, there are provisions that deal with punishments and penalties for non-compliance with this Act. The authority to make laws under the ambit of this Act lies with the Central government. This Act also deals with provisions, when the offences are committed by government departments and officials.
