Introduction
The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act which is also referred to as NDPS Act, was enacted in 1983, so far three amendments were made in this Act basically in 1988, 2001 and 2014. It imposed restrictions on certain aspects of drug production, consumption, and transportation. The offences covered under NDPS Act are non bailable, the penalties imposed are severe and the consequences can even lead to death penalties. Property derived from or used in the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is also subject to forfeiture.
