INTRODUCTION
The Wildlife Protection Act was enacted in 1972, with an objective to prohibit hunting of various species, provide shelter to the dangered and endangered species, establishment of various boards and sanctuaries and maintain diversity within India. This act empowers the federal and state governments to declare any area a nature reserve, national park, or closed area. Commercial activities are strictly prohibited within these protected areas.[1] The Act is divided into eight chapters and contains 60 sections and VI schedules and has been amended several times so far, in 1982, 1986, 1991, 1993, 2002, 2006, and 2013. This Act maintains a healthy ecological balance.
